Smith Diesel is southern Utah’s premier diesel mechanic. Their crew is something of a rowdy, rather DURABLE bunch of people rife with cunning and stunning diesel solutions. To put them to the team-building test, Kyle Smith hired me to design a custom experience for his pack. And what a pack! With the ability to solve puzzles and go to multiple locations in no particular order, this non-linear race allowed for a maximum of competition and brain-power. And they did not let me down.
With low-hanging and gray clouds menacing the crew assembled. It was Sunday, September 28th. The year was 2025. The time was 10:00 AM, MST. The location? The parking lot of Smith Diesel Performance. Six vehicles of various sizes lined up, filled with what I hope were eager faces. With everyone’s thumb’s up, co-pilots were locked in with their phones and notepads. Engines mildly idled. I’d hoped they’d roar at that time for maximum drama, but you know, them’s the breaks. I was delighted to arrive at the final treasure site, to find that the winners Colby and Breawnna Wiseman were SHARING their treasure with their coworker Sean Chapman. I’d hire people like that every day of the week. What a teriffic crew, and what an opportunity to enhance an experience.
To get started on your own corporate team-building experience just barely outrageous enough not to merit a visit to HR and still have Greg and Sharon from Accounting asking for a rematch next year against Chief Branding Officer Paul and that scrawny kid from Customer Service, (and I bet you’ll hire me again) just set a budget, and get a legend.
